I sent out a State wide email, but if you didn't receive it, I'm posting it here as well. 

As you may know during the 2024 legislative session, Utah lawmakers adopted HB 261, “Equal Opportunity Initiatives,” prohibiting state higher education institutions from relying on certain individual characteristics when making decisions about employment or education.

The law, signed by Governor Spencer Cox on Jan. 30, eliminates all central offices of higher education, public education systems, and governmental employers dedicated to equity, diversity, and inclusion. It also prohibits policies, procedures, practices, programs, or initiatives that are referred to as diversity, equity, and inclusion and requires that dedicated resource centers serve all students.

The law also prohibits the use of diversity statements or commitments in hiring and admission processes.

• If your organization has positions with job titles referencing or designed to support Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion, will you be changing or updating job titles? Job descriptions?

• Will you change the structure of who this position will be reporting to in your organization?

• Does your organization have any active committees working to support and assist Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion?
